How does it work? The CAN-bridge gets mounted between the battery and vehicle. It is intended to be mounted inside the vehicle to prevent it from the elements (the roads are quite salty here up north!). It attaches to the CAN-bus that handles the communication between these two, and makes both sides understand each other. Depending on your model year LEAF, the installation is a bit different, explained here.

The can bridge is pre-programmed,it can be used both for Nissan leaf original battery pack and DIY battery pack. Original Nissan leaf battery pack 40kwh and 62kwh OEM, can use this can bridge to do upgrade. DIY 40kwh battery pack use third party cells + original Nissan leaf BMS, you need to add this can bridge to realize display.
